Adolescent Gynecology
An important aspect of Amanda’s practice is specializing in adolescent gynecology. She enjoys communicating with the practice’s younger patients, educating them and taking time to listen to their health care concerns. She also takes a holistic approach to medicine, making sure the patient’s body systems are in balance.
According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), girls should have their first gynecologic visit between the ages of 13 and 15.
During this, and at other visits, Amanda asks questions about your family medical history, your menstrual period or sexual activities and your overall health and well-being.
She performs a general physical exam and an external genital exam. During the general exam, she records your height, weight and blood pressure.

A pelvic exam usually isn’t necessary at a first visit unless you are having problems. Most women begin having pelvic exams and a Pap test at age 21. A Pap test checks for abnormal changes in the cervix that could lead to cancer.
Amanda also reviews your immunizations, such as the tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) booster and influenza vaccine, to be sure they are up to date.
This also is a good time to talk with her about issues such as cramps or menstrual problems, acne, weight, sex and sexuality, emotional ups and down and what you can do to stay healthy.
In addition to focusing on adolescent gynecology, Amanda is certified to perform minor office procedures.
