During his residency, Paul Martis, M.D., a family medicine physician, received special training in pediatrics, an interest he continues to develop in his practice today with Providence Medical Group Lansing.

“I see patients of all ages, from infants to grandparents,” Dr. Martis says. “But I especially enjoy taking care of children. Whether they have a chronic illness, or I am seeing them for an immunization, I communicate well with kids, and I enjoy the opportunity to have a positive impact on their health.”

Dr. Martis’ pediatric medical training included emergency, chronic and well-child care. He performed his residency and internship in family medicine at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, an 802-bed acute care hospital. He also has training in managing a wide range of chronic adult medical conditions.

“One of the things I enjoy about practicing family medicine in Lansing is getting to know whole families. Sometimes I can see the parent and child at the same appointment. I think my patients appreciate the convenience of that,” Dr. Martis adds.

Chronic pediatric conditions Dr. Martis often treats include: attention deficit disorder, asthma, gastrointestinal symptoms and seizure disorders. “Many of these conditions require a primary care provider to oversee the child’s care, and to work in partnership with a pediatric specialist,” he explains.

In addition, Dr. Martis provides well-child visits, including immunizations, and sick child care for routine illnesses such as colds and the flu. He also performs sports physicals for the high school athletes in Lansing, Leavenworth and Piper.

Dr. Martis is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association.

To better accommodate families’ busy schedules, he has extended hours on Tuesdays until 6:30 p.m., and sees patients on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Martis, call 913-727-6000.
