According to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, there’s a significant need for primary care providers in Leavenworth County. In fact, there are 3,007 individuals per physician, significantly higher than the state’s average of 1,815 individuals.

To meet the growing need for high-quality primary health care, two physicians have recently joined Jeff Lawhead, M.D., at Providence Medical Group Lansing. Arden Andersen, D.O.—Dr. Andersen is board certified in family medicine and comes to Providence Medical Group Lansing from Crossroads Healing Arts, Goshen, Ind., where he served as the practice’s medical director and cared for patients of all ages, from infants to older adults. He treats a broad range of health conditions, focusing on nutritional counseling and preventive medicine.

Dr. Andersen also is connected to the military, serving as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves and as a reserve flight surgeon with Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Mo. He has more than 15 years of experience as a primary care physician and flight surgeon and has been deployed three times.

Dr. Andersen earned his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, Pomona, Calif. He performed an internship in family practice at Mercy-General Health Partners, Muskegon, Mich., and a residency in occupational medicine at the University of South Florida. He also has a bachelor’s degree in agriculture/agricultural education from the University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz., and a doctorate in agriculture and biophysics from the former Clayton University, St. Louis, Mo. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and vice president of the American Osteopathic Association of Prolotherapy Regenerative Medicine.

Dr. Andersen resides in Olathe, Kan., with his wife, Lisa Everett Andersen. She is a clinical pharmacist and co-owner of O’Brien’s Pharmacy in Mission, Kan.

Paul Martis, M.D.—Dr. Martis recently completed a residency and internship in family medicine at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, an 802-bed acute care hospital. He has extensive training in pediatrics and geriatrics and manages a wide range of chronic adult medical conditions.

Dr. Martis earned his medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas, Charlestown, Nevis, West Indies, and received a bachelor of science in integrative biology from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Martis resides in Kansas City, Kan. He enjoys the outdoors and fishing in his spare time.
